On February 26th, 2020, the United Nations Human Rights Council presented a report regarding the impunity seen in the Israel/ Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) conflict for more than a decade now, since 2008.

Most recently and emphasizing in the large-scale protests of March 2018 in the Gaza-Israel Fence that led to a series of international humanitarian law violations between November 2018 and October of 2019.

In-between this period of time, Israeli security forces killed 131 Palestinians including five women and 23 children (all of the killings inside the OPT), at the same time, 11 Israelis were killed by Palestinians.

Aside from the disproportionate number of victims, specifically Palestinian Victims, there is an overall lack of accountability and persistent impunity for the perpetrators of such acts. Additional, excessive use of force from the Israeli security forces against the Palestinian Protestors, exalting the use of live ammunition instead of rubber bullets.

In order to prevent future human rights violations, the HRI for peace and freedom demands the Israeli Government to address the situation and condemn any excessive use of force from military personnel, which works on a clear command chain. We must stand out that the perpetrators are not only the ones whom physically commit the violation, but the people whom intellectually elaborate the violation are responsible as well.  As well, we demand the international community, specifically, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights within all of the means possible, to visualize the situation and work on a solution in order to prevent the more than 10-year- old conflict from worsening.
